On the first day the participants had the opportunity to learn more about the course of the project, its challenges and achievements, as well as obtain information about experiences of other countries in regard to restoration of the grasslands and use of grass biomass as a source for energy production. Presenters included representatives of the Baltic Environmental Forum, Latvian Fund for Nature, Nature Conservation Agency, Riga Technical University, BioRE Ltd., as well as representatives of Environmental Board of Estonia, Estonian University of Life Sciences, Danish Nature Agency, Poznań University of Life Sciences and Thünen Institute. After the presentations a panel discussion followed, during which the participants discussed themes like competitiveness of grass biomass based biofuel with other fuels in the market and synergies and trade-offs of EU policies in the field.
On the second day participants of the seminar visited the project sites for producing biogas and biobutanol, namely participants visited a pilot facility for biobutanol production at Riga Technical University and a pilot facility for biogas production in the city of Sigulda.
