LIFE Award 2020

The “LIFE AWARD” is an event honouring EC environment and climate program LIFE projects implemented in Latvia. The ceremony was organized for the third time within the LIFE program capacity building project in Latvia CAP LIFE LAT. The aim of the event is to promote the visibility of the LIFE program in Latvia by identifying and demonstrating the most successful implementers of LIFE projects in Latvia. In total, 20 LIFE program projects were evaluated in 6 categories.

The “LIFE AWARD 2020” took place on Facebook LIVE. Participants of the ceremony were addressed by Angelo Salsi, Head of the European Commission’s LIFE Program, and Alda Ozola, Deputy State Secretary for Environmental Protection of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia, and Ilona Mendziņa, National Contact Point for LIFE program in Latvia. Traditionally, LIFE Awards events are organised on site; however, due to restrictions adopted for containment of COVID-19 infection, this year the awarding ceremony took place remotely. The event was participated by representatives of projects and other interested persons, who had a chance to participate and comment interactively on Facebook platform.

The awards were awarded in 6 different nominations:

  1. Top rated new project;
  2. Publicly most active project;
  3. Financially most extensive project;
  4. Most significant contribution to environmental protection;
  5. Most significant contribution to solving climate change;
  6. Projetct with the greatest impact.
