Overview of the implemented LIFE projects by Didier Gambier, Head of Department in the European Commission’s Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME)

At the end of the year, celebration marking the 15th anniversary of the LIFE programme in Latvia was organised at the National Library of Latvia. Didier Gambier, Head of LIFE and Horizon 2020 Energy Efficiency, Environment, Resources and the Department in the European Commission’s EASME, also delivered a presentation at the event.

The presentation of Didier Gambier summarised information of successfully financed LIFE projects in Latvia and other Member States of the European Union. In 2015, the leader in terms of the number of projects submitted was Italy (362 projects), followed by Spain with 278 projects. In the same year, Latvia submitted 18 projects for the attraction of the LIFE funding. Mr. Gambier pointed out that, although the number of projects implemented so far in Latvia is small, overall results achieved within the projects are good; furthermore, separate projects have even received European level awards.

Besides, Mr. Gambier acquainted guests of the event with the key requirements for LIFE project proposals, emphasising that the projects must be related to long-term objectives of the EU Climate and Environmental Policy implementation and must have a plan of specific results.
